5 ways to prevent burn out

We are overburdened and exhausted, which is why it’s important to do things for yourself that aren’t work related
MAPODILE VIA GETTY

It seems impossible to enjoy life with rising petrol prices and lower salaries. The whole world feels like it is consistently on fire and in the middle of all of it, we forget to breathe. I’d like to share some tips on how you can unwind after a long day or just after an exhausting conversation:

  • Sleep

We do not do a lot of that nowadays. It’s very important that you get your 8 hours, or around 6 hours of sleep if you are over 50. If you are having trouble doing it, then you should talk to a doctor or a professional about it because it might affect your health severely.

  • Community

Find a community that brings you good vibes. There is a lot to be negative about but that does not mean we should allow that in our personal space. So, limit or cut out people who make you lose hope or abandon your dreams and studies.

  • Pick up a hobby

Find something to do that will make you relax and that you solely do for fun. I know that we live in a capitalist society that tells us that when we are good at something we should monetise it, but my advice is if you do not want to take the joy out of it then do not make money from it. Learn how to skate, draw and paint or even find a study group to help ease your workload. You could get into gardening or have dance parties, and I am not talking about the club.

  • Get in touch with nature

I know this might be difficult to do because we have built these ghastly concrete jungles, but if you can and when it is safe, go to the park and read a book. If you have the funds, you can go hiking or visit a rural location for a day.

  • Find a physical activity

It does not have to be the gym and it does not have to be because you want to lose weight. If that seems like too much, then just stop drinking and smoking, you will feel so much better.

  • Therapy

If you can afford it see a therapist, please do so, or if you cannot afford it, you can speak to someone at your local clinic about seeing a social worker.
